As part of New Brunswick’s COVID-19 recovery effort, travellers entering New Brunswick by land, air or sea must register so information can be collected to support Public Health.

You must register online before you travel. Your registration confirmation will be sent by email within 5 days. Plan ahead and submit your application prior to your travel date.

Avoid being turned away at the border and read the below “How to Register” before you start!

Before you register

Please note:

• Each adult entering the province, including a New Brunswicker returning after travel outside the province, needs to complete their own registration.
• Persons under the age of 18 travelling with their parent or guardian may be listed on the same registration, when their parent or guardian is the primary applicant.
• Persons under the age of 18 travelling alone need their own registration.
• Make sure you have the required documents you will need to register.
• Anyone entering the province from outside New Brunswick for approved travel is required to self-isolate for 14 days, unless exempted under New Brunswick’s State of Emergency Order.
• Commercial operators and crew members of vehicles operated on highways are exempt from registration.
• It is recommended that travellers register at least five days before their intended date of arrival in New Brunswick, though turnaround time on their registration may be faster.
• Obtaining a New Brunswick travel registration is free.

Travellers entering New Brunswick from the United States or other international locations outside of North America, and whose travel has been approved by Canada Border Services Agency must also register their travel through the New Brunswick Travel Registration Program.

We cannot accept calls from outside Canada and the United States. Travellers using a phone number from outside of Canada or the United States should enter the number in the comments section of their application.
 

How to register

• Review the list of what you need to register and have the information ready.
• Register online or, if you do not have an email address, by phone.
• If registering online, complete the fields as directed. Fields that must be completed are noted with an asterisk (*).
• Once your registration (online or by phone) has been approved, you will receive a confirmation number for your travel approval by email. Ensure that noreply.registration@gnb.ca is on your list of safe senders so that your confirmation email does not end up in your spam folder.
• You will receive approval within five business days from the date you applied.
• Print or have an electronic copy of your confirmation number on a mobile device so that you can present it when you arrive at a New Brunswick point of entry.
• When entering the "Main Contact Phone Number," applicants should provide the number where they will be reachable when in New Brunswick. It is recommended that adults travelling together not use a single phone number on the registration form. Each adult should register using his or her phone number.
• If you have completed an application and are attempting to make any changes once it has been submitted, or if your registration is denied and you wish to have your file reviewed, you may reach out by email at TravelRegistration.EnregistrementVoyage@gnb.ca or call 1-833-948-2800 (Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Atlantic). Please do not register a new application, as multiple registration applications could result in multiple call attempts from our Automated Calling Service.

Approved reasons for entry

• You are travelling through New Brunswick to reach another destination
• You are a New Brunswick resident returning home
• Your travel is work-related
• You have child custody arrangements in New Brunswick
• Your travel is related to child care
• You are moving to New Brunswick to take up residence
• Your travel is related to a medical appointment
• You are entering New Brunswick to attend court
• You have obtained authorization for an end-of-life or pallative visit (Select ‘Other’ on your registration) 
• You are from Listuguj or Pointe-à-la-Croix entering at Campbellton to access essential goods and services (Select ‘Other’ on your registration)
• You are a Campobello Island resident travelling directly between Campobello Island and mainland New Brunswick without stopping, or stopping only in Lubec, Maine for fuel, groceries, or health needs, or in Lubec or Machias, Maine, for medical needs.
• You are travelling to access specialized or urgent veterinary care.
   

What you will need to register

(All travellers, including residents of New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada)

• Your contact information
• Your originating address and the address you will be travelling to, including the postal code
• Your reason for travelling
• The date you will be entering and leaving New Brunswick (if applicable)
• The names of children/dependents travelling with you
• If you are travelling by land, your licence plate number and point of entry
• If you are travelling by air, your flight number and point of entry
• If arriving via the Digby ferry, the time and date of your arrival
• The required documents for your travel reason (see the table below)

What you will need at the border

• Your travel registration, either printed or visible on a mobile device (if you do not have a printer or mobile device, you may provide your registration number)
• Any isolation order generated by the system as part of your registration (if applicable)
• Valid identification such as your driver’s licence, provincial health card, or other government-issued photo identification.
• Documentation to support your registration and verify your reason of travel.
• When applicable, documentation or an electronic copy of your most recent COVID-19 negative test that shows you’ve met testing requirements

Registration for residents of Listuguj First Nations and Pointe-à-la-Croix, Quebec

Residents of Listuguj First Nation and Pointe-à-la-Croix, Quebec, are permitted to travel to Restigouche County to attend school, access child care or to obtain to access essential goods and services between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Travel is limited to one crossing every seven days. This limitation does not apply to travel for school, child care, custody or medical care.  

“Essential goods and services” means:

• necessities of life (includes groceries and clothing) and supporting services (includes butchery for hunted game),
• health care (includes physician and hospital care, prescriptions, and medical equipment and supplies, and permits one support person to accompany traveller),
• goods and services required for their work,
• banking and financial services,
• transportation (includes automotive repair),
• child care and child custody arrangements
• animal care

Travellers from Listuguj First Nation and Pointe-à-la-Croix ages two and up must also test negative for COVID-19 weekly.

For those applying to travel into New Brunswick from Listuguj or Pointe-à-la-Croix for essential goods and services, use the travel category “Other” and under “Border Entry” choose “Campbellton”, and answer yes to the question “Are you crossing for groceries, pharmaceuticals or essential supplies?” Anyone travelling for work, medical, veterinary, or custody or child care reasons must apply using those categories of travel.
 

Workers entering and returning to New Brunswick

If you are not a regular commuter and are travelling for work, either as a returning New Brunswicker or a non-resident entering the province for work, you must self-isolate for 14 days.

If you are a regular commuter travelling for work or post-secondary education, you must limit your activities while outside of your home province to going to work or attending a post-secondary institution. Regular commuter means someone who crosses the border frequently for work or post-secondary education without an overnight stay, and who returns to their home province each time.

All regular commuters into, or out of, New Brunswick are required to test negative for COVID-19 weekly. New Brunswickers who commute outside the province regularly should self-monitor for symptoms and avoid vulnerable people after they return. Should symptoms develop, they must immediately self-isolate and arrange for testing (online or call 811).

Commercial delivery – Truck drivers and crew members of vehicles operating on highways delivering goods or people are not required to register.

If you are returning from international travel for work and are placed on Federal quarantine pursuant to the Quarantine Act by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), you must complete a 14-day federal quarantine.

Travellers should be aware that the province may impose or extend periods of isolation in addition to quarantine requirements mandated by the federal government.

Frequent traveller pass

Frequent travel passes facilitate and streamline travel across the New Brunswick border for commuting to work, to attend post-secondary education, for childcare or shared child custody arrangements, or to access health care services. If you are a frequent traveller you may apply for a frequent traveller pass. These passes do not replace an approved travel registration.

Instructions when applying online:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose “Work-related (NB Resident)**” or “Work-related (Non-NB Resident)” as applicable.
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter “frequent traveller pass” and provide the information to support your registration.
• While you must indicate your first date of arrival to New Brunswick, you are not required to enter a “leaving” date.

**If you are an NB resident returning from travel for work and NOT a daily commuter, you must select NB Resident Returning as your travel category.

If you travel to fulfill a custody order, follow these instructions when applying online:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose “Custody”.
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter “Custody” and provide the information to support your registration.
• While you must indicate your first date of arrival to New Brunswick, you are not required to enter a “leaving” date.

If you travel for recurring medical appointments, follow these instructions when applying online:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose “Medical – Multi – Use”.
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter “Recurring medical appointments/treatment” and provide the information to support your registration.
• While you must indicate your first date of arrival to New Brunswick, you are not required to enter a “leaving” date.

Health screening and weekly testing

Health Screening Questionnaire.

All travellers registering to enter New Brunswick must answer the health screening questionnaire at the time of registration and again at the point of entry. If you answer yes to any of the health-related questions during the registration process, you are not permitted to travel into New Brunswick

Some groups of travellers must submit to mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing:

• People who commute regularly into, or out of, New Brunswick for work or post-secondary education;
• Residents of Listuguj First Nation and Pointe-à-la-Croix, Quebec, ages two and up who travel to attend school, access child care, or to obtain essential goods and services;
• Parents and children ages two and up travelling to and from New Brunswick to facilitate child care or a child custody agreement (except those entering from Nova Scotia or Prince Edward Island);
• People who travel into, or out of, New Brunswick for medical care or emergency or specialized veterinary care (except those entering from Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island); and
• Commercial transportation operators who reside in New Brunswick.

Testing is also available, but is not required, for residents of Campobello Island.

USA/International travellers

International travellers approved by the Canadian Border Services Agency are required to register their travel through the New Brunswick Travel Registration Program and receive approval from New Brunswick before travelling. Approval by CBSA does not guarantee entry into New Brunswick. Click here, or consult the Mandatory Order, for a list of valid reasons for entry into New Brunswick

Anyone who enters Canada but does not travel directly to New Brunswick (e.g. they undertake their isolation period in another province or territory), will only be permitted entry into New Brunswick if they qualify under New Brunswick’s admission criteria. These travellers will be required to self-isolate for 14 days under the federal Quarantine Act unless exempt, and upon entering New Brunswick, must follow the guidance of the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

Residents of Campobello Island

Residents of Campobello Island travelling through the United States must register their travel with the New Brunswick Travel Registration Program and must also meet the requirements of Canada Border Services Agency for entry into Canada.

Residents of Campobello Island are not required to self-isolate upon entering New Brunswick if they have travelled directly between Campobello Island and mainland New Brunswick through Maine without stopping or if they have stopped only in Lubec, Maine, for fuel, groceries, or medical necessities, or Machias, Maine, for medical necessities. If stopping in Maine they must continuously follow all requirements of the Mandatory Order that apply in Campobello including face coverings and distancing.

Residents of Campobello Island who frequently cross the border for work, to facilitate children sharing their time between parents under an order or agreement providing for joint custody, for medical appointments, or to obtain urgent or specialized veterinary care, should follow these instructions when applying online:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose the option that corresponds with your situation.
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter and provide the information to support your registration.
• While you must indicate your first date of arrival to New Brunswick, you are not required to enter a “leaving” date

If crossing the border to travel directly through the United States to mainland New Brunswick:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose “Campobello Essential Travel” and use this same registration each time you travel for this purpose. This is a multi-use registration. Campobello Island residents may travel directly to Lubec Maine for fuel, groceries or medical necessities, with no other stops in the United States of America, if they wear face coverings in Maine as required by the mandatory order as if they were in New Brunswick continuously.

If crossing the border for other reasons:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose “Other,”
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter and provide the information to support your registration.
• Under “What date you are returning to NB?” provide the date you will be travelling.
    

Travel FAQ for Campobello Island residents

Student travellers

Entering New Brunswick to pick up a student

Effective 11:59 p.m. April 9, 2021: You may enter New Brunswick for a period lasting no more than 24 hours to transport a student and/or remove belongings from a student’s residence. You must observe all public health rules and minimize contact with others, except the student you are picking up.

When registering, select “Other” as the Reason for Entry and indicate in the Detailed Reasons for Entry that you are “Picking up a student in New Brunswick.”

Staying longer than 24 hours for this purpose is considered remaining in the province and the 14-day self-isolation period would then apply. Before travelling to New Brunswick, always check with your home province to see if further restrictions may be applied upon returning home.
  

Leaving New Brunswick to pick up a student

Effective 11:59 p.m. April 9, 2021: New Brunswick residents may enter Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador, for a period lasting no more than 24 hours to transport a student and/or remove belongings from a student’s residence. They must observe all public health rules and minimize contact with others while away but will not be required to self-isolate upon their return to New Brunswick.

When registering, select “NB Resident Returning” as the Reason for Entry and indicate in the Detailed Reasons for Entry that you are “Accompanying a student to New Brunswick.”

Students returning to New Brunswick after living in Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador will not need to self-isolate upon their return.

New Brunswick residents who leave New Brunswick to pick up or drop off a student in a province other than Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador will be required to self-isolate for 14 days upon their return to New Brunswick in compliance with public health guidelines. These travellers should select “NB Resident Returning” as their Reason for Entry when registering their travel.  
  

Students who commute from another province 

Post-secondary students who regularly commute (3 or more times per week) to attend studies and return home the same day must submit to a weekly COVID-19 test and limit their activities to attending school while outside of their home province. To remain exempt from the requirement to self-isolate, they may only between their home province and their school without making any additional stops.
 

End-of-life (palliative) visits and funerals

The Canadian Red Cross has been authorized to approve travel into New Brunswick for end-of-life visits with an immediate family member, including both in-home end-of-life visitation and end-of-life visitation in a hospital, hospice or nursing home, or to attend the funeral or burial of an immediate family member. Entry into New Brunswick is not permitted for making funeral arrangements, visiting, or attending a wake.

For the purposes of entry, only the following relationships are considered to be immediate family:

• Parent (including step-parents and parents-in-law)
• Child (including step-children, foster children and adoptive children)
• Grandparent (including great-grandparents)
• Grandchild (including great-grandchildren)
• Sibling (including step-siblings, half-siblings)
• Significant other (defined as persons in an intimate partner relationship)

Anyone entering New Brunswick for a funeral, burial or end-of-life visit must self-isolate for 14 days after entry in compliance with self-isolation guidelines. If you need to attend a funeral, burial or end-of-life visit in a hospital, hospice or nursing home prior to completing 14 days of self-isolation, you must first test negative for COVID-19 on the 5^th day of self-isolation. Note that it can take up to 2 additional days to obtain your test results.

After receiving negative results from a COVID test taken on day 5, you may only leave your place of self-isolation as required for an end-of-life visit or to attend a funeral or burial service in compliance with public health guidelines. If you need to visit your family member in home for end of life visit prior to completing 14 days of self-isolation, strict protocols for these visits will be provided to you by Red Cross staff. If you are visiting a hospital, hospice or nursing home you must also have written permission to enter the facility. You will be directed by the facility on their requirements for entry and self-isolation while at the facility.

Following the funeral or visit, you must continue to self-isolate for the remainder of the 14 days. You may also choose to leave the province before the 14 day isolation period has ended.

To begin the application process:

• Call the Canadian Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 (8:30am - 5pm, 7 days a week)
• Select your language of choice.
• Press “1” – Affected by Disaster
• Press “5” – New Brunswick
•  Press “1” – Affected by COVID-19

If your application to enter New Brunswick for an end-of-life visit or to attend a funeral or burial is approved, your travel must also be registered through the New Brunswick Travel Registration Program:

• Under “Reason for Entry”, choose “Other”.
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter and provide any information to support your registration.

You will be required to show your approval letter from the Canadian Red Cross when entering New Brunswick.

International travellers wanting to enter New Brunswick for an end-of-life visit with an immediate family member or to attend a funeral or burial of an immediate family member must also obtain approval from the Government of Canada. While in New Brunswick, such travellers must follow Canada's public health guidelines for COVID-19 as well as any conditions set by New Brunswick’s Chief Medical Officer of Health or her designate. Where provincial and federal requirements differ, the most stringent requirements must be followed.

Medical Care

You are allowed to enter New Brunswick when travelling for medical care. This applies to both non-residents who are entering New Brunswick and to New Brunswickers returning from travel outside the province to receive medical care. Medical travellers may be accompanied by one or two support persons if necessary.

Anyone travelling for medical care must test negative for COVID-19 on a weekly basis and must work-isolate for 14 days after entering the province in compliance with public health guidelines. Testing and work isolation requirements do not apply to anyone travelling for medical care who has not been outside of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in the 14 days prior to entry into the province.

If you are entering New Brunswick to receive medical care or are returning from travel outside New Brunswick to obtain medical care:

• Choose “Medical – Single Use” as your Reason for Entry, or “Medical – Multi Use” if you have recurring appointments and are applying for a frequent traveller pass.
    
• In the section “Detailed Reason for Entry”, enter “Recurring medical appointments/treatment” and provide the information to support your registration.

Persons travelling to receive medical care must show documentation or correspondence from a health care practitioner or health care facility confirming the medical appointment(s) at the chosen point of entry. These travellers are also required to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test or proof of a scheduled COVID-19 test upon request if they have travelled outside of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in the previous 14 days.

Specialized or emergency veterinary care

Persons are allowed to enter New Brunswick when travelling to obtain specialized or emergency veterinary care for animals that is not available in their home province. This applies to both non-residents who are entering New Brunswick and to New Brunswickers returning from travel outside the province to obtain veterinary care.

Anyone travelling for veterinary care must test negative for COVID-19 on a weekly basis and must work-isolate for 14 days after entering the province in compliance with public health guidelines. Testing and work isolation requirements do not apply to anyone travelling for veterinary care who has not been outside of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island in the 14 days prior to entry into the province.

Non-residents may only remain in New Brunswick for up to 24 hours and may not make any additional stops except food and fuel.

A letter from the veterinarian confirming the care is specialized or urgent and that the care is not available in the traveller’s home province is required.

New Brunswickers returning from travel to obtain veterinary care should choose “NB Resident Returning” as the Reason for Entry and must state that the travel is for specialized or urgent veterinary services and that they have the required documentation, under the Detailed Reason for Entry.

Non-residents entering New Brunswick to obtain veterinary care should choose “Other” as the Reason for Entry choose “Other” and must state that the travel is for specialized or urgent veterinary services and that they have the required documentation, under the Detailed Reason for Entry and has the necessary documents for entry.

Privacy notice

Personal information provided to the Department of Justice and Public Safety for the New Brunswick Travel Registration Program is collected under the authority of the Renewed and Revised Mandatory Order COVID-19 issued under the State of Emergency Declaration and the Emergency Measures Act (R.S.N.B. 2011, c.147) and will be used to determine eligibility for entry into the province of New Brunswick as well as any conditions for entry.

Collected personal information will only be used by authorized government staff to fulfill the purpose for which it was originally collected. Please note that your information may be shared with public health and safety authorities in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and/or Newfoundland and Labrador for public health purposes. We do not disclose your information to other public bodies or individuals except as authorized by law.
